I love the process
My love of product design began, weirdly enough, in a pre-med classroom. To inspire better experiment design, the professor played a video of an IDEO workshop. The team was tasked with creating a better supermarket experience. To do it they focused on understanding the problem in new ways. They interviewed customers, watched people shop, brainstormed, and filled hundreds of sticky notes with ideas. This was something new. It looked creative, effective… even fun. It was the product design process. I was hooked.
I’ve spent the decade-plus since learning product management and design, and bringing the process to organizations big and small. I’ve now gotten lightweight product design processes off the ground in a research lab, a CNN newsroom, an advertising agency, an IOT hardware company, and a tech startup. In each instance I’ve focused on evangelizing for user needs and creating a repeatable end-to-end process - first with baby steps, then maturing the process once I've won organizational buy-in. Along the way my teams and I have brought innovative, well-loved, impactful, and patented products to life.
Outside of the office I devote most of my time to creating, and searching for experiences that will inspire me. I love producing music, drawing comics, surfing, visting art museums, and exploring the world with my fiancé Tessa and our two dogs.
